DESIGN

The aim of the course was to visualize a music sequence of our choice in a group. The requirement was to use geometric shapes to represent the instruments and sounds precisely, and to bring them into an atmospheric unit, while also taking into account the interaction of time and space. In addition, a structured analysis was required, which served as a basis for the visualization. It was necessary to make all facets of the piece recognizable throughout the entire project.

SONG SELECTION

We decided on a sequence of the piece “Scheune” by the collective “Feathered Sun“. The task required a purely instrumental piece composed of expressive clear instruments. The spatial effect of the piece gave us the idea for the three-dimensional implementation in space. The individual instruments occupy different positions, which were given by their respective intensity and relevance in the piece. The protagonist, the guitar, moves in the middle, while the other instruments are placed around it. Also, the song is divided into two parts, which are symbolized by a zoom.

SEMANTIC DIFFERENTIAL

To classify the piece more precisely, a semantic differential was used. Therefore, attributes are juxtaposed with their matching counterpart, thus characterizing the song. This results in a general opinion about the song, which is used as the basis for the analysis.

POSTER

As motif for the poster we chose the element of the guitar. The purpose of the poster was to advertise a fictional event, in which the selected piece of music is shown, or, for example, a group performs. Of course, the focus of the poster is to give information. In order to harmoniously combine the font and the picture, we chose a frame that connects the simple font with the complex background. We also used a frame that interacts with the organic sphere. It creates a transition and connects the two-dimensional plane with the three-dimensional plane.
The “statni opera” in Praha was chosen as the venue for the event, so all the information on the poster is in Czech. Also, only the name of the collective “FEATHERED SUN” is mentioned on the poster and not the song title “Scheune”. The poster was supposed to advertise a concert, not a single song.
